Enrolment / Re-enrolment in a doctoral program

IMPORTANT: Registration for a PhD must be renewed at the beginning of each
academic year until the defense.

Deadline for enrolment in the doctoral school: 15 April 2025
Deadline for re-registration at UCBL: 5 December 2024
Deadline for re-registration at ENS: 15 November 2024
Deadline for re-registration at INSA: 
Deadline for re-registration at VetAgroSup: 


Please note: from registration or re-registration in 2025/2026, funding in D4 will be compulsory.

I will be starting my first year of a doctorate in October 2024

Once the doctoral school has confirmed that I can register on ADUM, I follow the procedure.

I will find all the document I need to download on my ADUM space or on the institutions' websites (see below - institution procedures).

The individual training agreement is also available here. 

With regard to the charters, I would be grateful if you could include only yhe appendices (for UCBL).

Registration for a doctorate is twofold:
_ Pedagogical registration by the doctoral school
_ Administrative registration by the establishment

Reminder: from October of the following year, you will be in the year above, regardless of your contract start date or registration date.

e.g. If I enrol between September and December 2024, I will have to enrol in D2 in October 2025.

e.g. If I enrol between January 2025 and April 2025, I will have to enrol in D2 in October 2025. 
 

I enter my second or third year in October 2024

Once my CSI has been validated, I can apply for re-registration on ADUM

 

I enter the fourth year and + in October 2024 without defending before the end of Decembre 2024

Once my CSI has been validated, I can apply for re-registration on ADUM

I am enter the fourth year and + in October 2024 with a defence between 1 October 2024 and 31 December 2024

Administrative registration

Depending on the institution in which you are registered, you will need to find out the internal procedures from their doctoral studies department:

To register administratively, the Doctoral Studies Department of your institution (Lyon 1, INSA Lyon or ENS Lyon) will ask you for a certain number of documents and the payment of registration fees.

Frequently asked questions

_ The start date of my thesis on ADUM is not the same as the start date on my work contract
The start date of your thesis on ADUM is the date of your administrative registration for the thesis. It is not the start date of your employment contract. 
 
_ I have received an email to cancel my application: ‘The data you have entered does not correspond to our expectations. Please modify it and refinalise your application when you have done so’.
You were informed of the changes to be made in a previous e-mail. You have not made all the changes. You will therefore receive an invalidation email. Please refer to the initial e-mail. 
 
_ I have resigned from my employment contract, what should I do?
During the registration period, you must enter your old contract, your letter of resignation and the institution's acceptance on ADUM and add your new employment contract.
Outside the registration period, you should send a message to the secretariat, adding your letter of resignation, your letter of acceptance from the institution and your new employment contract.
