Admission without competition (funding obtained) / Academic year 2025/2026
Admissions ‘hors-concours’ can be made when a thesis director, a team or a laboratory associated with the ED obtains funding corresponding to the salary of a doctoral student (minimum approximately 1687 euros per month for 3 years).
Admission is not “automatic” but subject to examination of the application and a hearing before a jury made up of members of the ED Council.
The school checks that the candidate, subject, team and funding are a good match.

2. Candidates submit their applications on the ADUM platform
Candidature
The candidate must submit a single pdf file on ADUM, containing the following information in this order:

_ the application form to be downloaded from ADUM, which must be signed by the candidate (it must include the letter of motivation and any additional information)
_ the application file, which must include a detailed scientific description of the thesis project (max 6000 characters, including spaces)
_ the documents requested in the application file.
The application must be completed at least two weeks before the date of the CPO auditions.
To reserve a place at the auditions, please send an email to e2m2.codir@listes.univ-lyon1.fr at least one month before the date of the CPO, stating your surname, first name, laboratory and name of your thesis supervisor (subject to availability).
Audition
This consists of a presentation of the candidate's doctoral research project and intended career path to the members of the doctoral school's Extended Board (CPO).
After the presentation, the jury questions the candidate on subjects related to their course of study, their doctoral project and their career plan.
- Only members of the board may attend this hearing.
- The test lasts 20 minutes (oral presentation 10 minutes, questions 10 minutes).
Practical arrangements: The number of slides is limited to that of the presentation (no appendices). The file corresponding to the presentation must be in PDF format only and must be called NOM_OralE2M2.pdf for example DURAND_OralE2M2.pdf.
It must be sent to e2m2.codir@listes.univ-lyon1.fr at least 3 days before the audition.
Doctoral registration
Once the CPO has reviewed and approved your doctoral project, your application will be transferred to the ‘ADUM inscription’ database. You will then have to register for teaching and administrative courses (see the registration procedure).
Whatever the start date of your contract, you will move up to the next year in October (academic year registration).
Conditions for candidates
- Hold a national master's degree or another degree conferring the grade of master, and have a proven aptitude for research.
- Have funding corresponding to a salary.
