Funding and thesis offers

Regular doctoral contracts

A number of doctoral contracts are awarded by the University of Lyon each year to the E2M2 doctoral school. (there is also the possibility of obtaning an INSA doctoral contract)
These contracts are distributed by competition.

Targeted doctoral contracts

Targeted contracts are sometimes awarded by the Ministry on specific subjects to teams at the scool. Funding in sent directly to a thesis supervisor. The candidate must apply via the special application procedure

Doctoral contracts for disabled students

Lyon 1 University is inviting applications for doctoral contracts for disabled students. This concerns the awarding of doctoral contracts or the extension of doctoral contracts that are coming to an end (for a maximum of 12 additional months).
Applicants must compile a single PDF file containing the following items, which must be listed in this order:
 
• The Ministry's "disability" application form
• A curriculum vitae enabling an assessment of the relationship between the candidate's training and their thesis project. 
• The thesis project (maximum 4 pages, excluding bibliography) with a provisional three-year timetable – relevance and feasibility – statement of motivation. 
• A copy of the degree (master's or equivalent) enabling enrolment in a doctoral school.
• A copy of the corresponding transcripts. 

In another PDF, you must submit:
• Notification of the decision to grant recognition as a disabled worker from the departmental office for disabled persons (MDPH) or the MDPH receipt (complete file), specifying that the application is admissible and under review.
 
Applications must be sent to the doctoral school by April X, 2027 at the latest to e2m2.codir@listes.univ-lyon1.fr.
Once the contract has been awarded, the candidate must send the relevant document to the secretariat before starting the registration process on ADUM (otherwise their ADUM registration will be deleted).

ENS doctoral contracts (CDSN)

Candidates must send a single pdf file containing their application to a CDSN, the documents requested in the application, and their location form to be signed by the doctoral school, by email to e2m2.codir@listes.univ-lyon1.fr. An interview with the CPO is mandatory before any contract is signed.
Once the contract has been awarded, the candidate must send the relevant document to the secretariat before starting the registration process on ADUM (otherwise their ADUM registration will be deleted).

Foundation for Medical Research (FRM) and FRM Béziat Prize

Every year, the Foundation for Medical Research organises a call for projects to fund around thirty three-year doctoral contracts.
In 2026, the FRM will award one contract to FRM Contrat and one contrat to Prix Béziat.
Candidates must send their FRM application by email to e2m2.codir@listes.univ-lyon1.fr before  February 27 2026.
Once the contract has been awarded, the candidate must send the relevant document to the secretariat before starting the registration process on ADUM (otherwise their ADUM registration will be deleted).

The joint doctoral programme of the Universitey of Lyon and the China Scholarship Council (CSC)

To obtain a letter of commitment from the ED, you must return the application file to us in a single pdf document to e2m2.codir@listes.univ-lyon1.fr.
Once the contract has been awarded, the candidate must send the relevant document to the secretariat before starting the registration process on ADUM (otherwise their ADUM registration will be deleted).
 

Other public or private funding

They are obtained by research units, their teams, and/or their researchers and teacher-researchers (e.g. CIFRE, ANR, etc.), independently of ministerial allocations.
 
To obtain a letter of commitment, please send your application in a single pdf document to e2m2.codir@listes.univ-lyon1.fr.
Once approval has been granted by the ANRT, the applicant must return this document to the secretariat before beginning the ADUM registration process (failure to do so will result in their ADUM registration being cancelled).
